One Amplifier, Many Speakers

This is the traditional approach to filling a large space: a single mixer amplifier powers a set of passive speakers spread around the room. The amplifier does the mixing too — plug in up to five microphones and two line/aux sources, or use the built-in Bluetooth, USB and FM, and route it all to your speakers. A teacher or presenter microphone connects straight into the front panel.

The amplifier offers both 70V/100V constant-voltage outputs — for many speakers on long runs — and 4–16Ω low-impedance outputs for a smaller, direct setup. Pair it with passive wall speakers for distributed coverage, or with the line-array speaker for a focused, high-output throw down a hall.

Passive vs active. Passive speakers have no amplifier inside, so they must be driven by this amplifier. If you would rather avoid a separate amplifier, the self-powered active loudspeakers or compact active wall speakers have the amplifier built in. Choose this amp-plus-passive route when you want many speakers driven from one central unit.

What is a mixer amplifier?

A mixer amplifier combines an audio mixer and a power amplifier in one unit. You connect microphones and sources directly to it, balance them, and it amplifies the result to drive your speakers — without a separate mixer and amplifier. The Tralltech mixer amplifier has five microphone inputs, two aux inputs, and built-in Bluetooth, USB and FM.

Do passive speakers need an amplifier?

Yes. Passive speakers have no amplifier inside, so they must be driven by an external amplifier such as this mixer amplifier. This is different from an active speaker, which has its own amplifier built in and only needs a line-level signal.

Should you choose active speakers or an amplifier with passive speakers?

An amplifier with passive speakers is efficient when you need to drive many speakers from one central unit — for example distributed speakers around a hall or several rooms. Self-powered active speakers are simpler for one or two positions because the amplifier is already inside. Both approaches are valid; the choice depends on how many speakers you are driving and where.

How much amplifier power do you need for a hall?

As a rough guide, a large classroom or small hall is well served by 60–120W, a mid-size hall by 240–350W, and a large auditorium by 500–650W — but the real figure depends on the number and sensitivity of the speakers and how loud the room needs to be. What is the difference between 70V/100V and 4–16Ω outputs?

A 70V or 100V constant-voltage output is designed for distributed systems, where many speakers run on long cables across a building. A 4–16Ω low-impedance output drives a small number of speakers directly, as in a single room or stage. This amplifier provides both, so it suits a single hall or a distributed installation.

Can you connect microphones directly to the amplifier?

Yes. The amplifier has five microphone inputs on the front, so a teacher's or presenter's microphone — wired, or the receiver of a wireless microphone system — connects straight in. You can mix several microphones with the Bluetooth, USB and FM sources at the same time.
