Whatever the source, write the downstream chain into the spec rather than assuming it.

How that chain is built depends on room size. A small huddle room can work with a good powered speaker or an all-in-one speakerphone. A medium or large boardroom normally uses an amplifier driving passive wall or ceiling speakers, with distributed coverage rather than one loud source. Specify the function — even, intelligible coverage at the farthest seat — and allow either topology.
